Electric System Inspection* Items
- Service entrance and panels
- condition of service drop, weatherhead or mast
- absence of or deficiencies in the grounding electrode system
- missing or damaged dead fronts or covers plates
- conductors not protected from the edges of electrical cabinets
- electrical cabinets and panel boards not appropriate for their location
- electrical cabinets and panel boards that are not accessible or do not have a minimum of 36-inches of clearance in front of them;
- deficiencies in:
- electrical cabinets, gutters, cutout boxes, and panel boards
- bonding and grounding
- conductors
- the operation of installed ground-fault or arc-fault circuit interrupter devices
- absence of:
- appropriate connections;
- anti-oxidants on aluminum conductor terminations
- a main disconnecting means
- Branch circuits, connected devices/fixtures
- test the installed and accessible smoke and carbon monoxide alarms;
- deficiencies in:
- absence of ground-fault circuit interrupter protection
- absence of arc-fault protection
- failure of operation of ground-fault circuit interrupter protection devices
- missing or damaged receptacle, switch or junction box covers
- appropriate connections if aluminum conductors are discovered in the main or sub-panel based on a random sampling of accessible receptacles and switches
- presence of power
- correct polarity
- presence of bonding or grounding
- switches
- wiring, wiring terminations, junction boxes, devices
- smoke and carbon monoxide alarms operation and location
- absence of carbon monoxide alarms when either of the following conditions exist:
- fuel fired appliance are installed in the dwelling; or
- an attached garage with an opening into the dwelling unit
- improper use of extension cords
*Note: The inspection observes only readily accessible and visible components and conditions. Latent, obscured and/or reasonably inaccessible components and materials may prevent inspection of those items.
